Registration for Safety Confirmation System and Contact Information Survey

CLAIR requests each JET participant register for the Safety Confirmation System (Emergency Call) and Contact Information Survey. Please register using the links below. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your supervisor.

Your login ID and password are both the final nine numbers of your JET Number, omitting the first two digits (20).

Mental Health Support Resources

With the aim of enhancing mental health support for JET participants, CLAIR offers the JET Programme Mental Health Counseling Assistance Programme. This programme provides a partial subsidy (50%, up to 20,000 yen per year) for counselling costs incurred through consultation with mental health professionals in Japan not covered by health insurance. The coverage period for this year is from Sunday, 1 April 2018 to Sunday, 31 March 2019. The application form can be submitted through your contracting organisation.

CLAIR also offers a free online counseling service to provide JET participants with mental health assistance from professional counsellors using Web Mail and Skype. If you would like to use this service, please access the following website. After entering the password, you will be instructed to register. You can receive up to seven Skype Counseling sessions from 1 July 2018 to 31 March 2019. CLAIR recommends trying the Web Mail Counseling system first. There is no limit to the number of threads you can start in the Web Mail Counseling system.

2018 JET Furusato Vision Project

The 2018 JET Furusato Vision Project is about to begin!

This year, eight JET alumni from Eastern Japan will return to the communities in which they lived and worked as JET Programme participants. Former JETs from seven countries have planned an exciting variety of projects with great prospects for internationalisation and exchange as well as local promotion and revitalisation.

CIR and SEA Mid-Year Conferences

The CIR Mid-Year Conference will take place from Monday, 26 November to Wednesday, 28 November at Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall.

The SEA Mid-Year Conference will take place from Monday, 5 November to Tuesday, 6 November at the Japan Institute of Sports Sciences.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games Volunteer Recruitment

Recruiting is underway for volunteers to assist with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The online application is available at the Organising Committee’s homepage until early December (link below).

Foreign resident and visiting volunteers including JET Programme participants and alumni will likely be able to contribute in receiving, guiding, and attending to visiting parties connected with the events as well as other various areas of support.

Through the online application, applicants will have a dedicated “my page” through which various information and preferences can be submitted. Notification regarding invitations to volunteer will take place between February and July, 2019. The process will include an interview and a pre-Games training and has been designed to accommodate overseas applicants.

The Olympics will be held from 24 July to 9 August, and the Paralympics from 25 August to 6 September, 2020. Don’t miss this rare opportunity! Start your application now!

There is a requirement of a minimum of ten days of activities for each volunteer, so be sure to coordinate with your contracting organization.

Tickets Now on Sale for the Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan

Tickets are now on sale for the Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan, Asia’s first Rugby World Cup. Matches will be hosted in twelve locations from Sapporo in the north to Kumamoto in the south.

Advance sales are conducted by a lottery system, and applications are being accepted at the home page below until Monday, 12 November 2018.

A second round of ticket sales is scheduled to begin on Saturday, 19 January 2019, and tickets will be available on a first come first served basis, starting at 10:00 AM Japan time.

Accepting Applications for 13th Annual International Exchange Commendation

Together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), CLAIR is holding the International Exchange Commendation (Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Award). This award commends local governments for exemplary yet little-known international exchange activities with the hope of leading to further exchange of ideas between local governments and improved international exchange.

If your contracting organization is involved in international exchange, please consider applying. The deadline for applications is Friday, 30 November.

2019 After JET Conference and JET Programme Career Fairs

JET participants completing their appointment on the JET Programme in 2019 are eligible to attend the 2019 After JET Conference (AJC) held on Thursday, 28 February 2019 at the Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall.

For JET participants interested in working in Japan after JET, three career fairs will be held in Fukuoka, Osaka and the Greater Tokyo area on Sunday, 3 February; Sunday, 17 February; and Friday, 1 March respectively. More information about these events will be sent via e-mail in early December to all JET participants who have registered their e-mail address with CLAIR. To those who have not yet registered their e-mail address with CLAIR, please do so as soon as possible.

Japanese Language Courses (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced)

Registration is still possible after the deadline for a course has passed. Participants who apply before Saturday, 10 November will be able to start their course on Saturday, 1 December. Calling All Aspiring Writers: Submission of Articles for JET Programme Voices

CLAIR and The Yomiuri Shimbun have launched a periodical column in The Japan News, a globally-circulated English language newspaper. ‘JET Programme Voices’ is a collection of articles submitted by current and former JET participants to give a worldwide audience insight into the unique experiences and achievements of participants during their time on the Programme. Multilingual Disaster Preparedness Signage Tool

As part of continued efforts to promote disaster preparedness and internationalisation at the grassroots level, CLAIR provides an online tool to easily develop signage in multiple languages. The main purpose of this tool is to allow users to create signage leading to evacuation areas, but it has many other useful templates as well. CIRs who are responsible for planning international events or translating signage as part of their work duties may find this tool helpful.

Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Grant

For JET Programme participants who have passed the JLPT N1, N2, or N3 conducted on Sunday, 1 July 2018, you may be eligible to receive a grant for the test fee. To check your eligibility, please read the Grant Overview and Eligibility Flowchart, accessible from the link below. If you meet the conditions, please submit your grant application directly to CLAIR. It must arrive by Wednesday, 31 October 2018.

Reappointment Procedures

The time for reappointment procedures is approaching. Please talk with friends, family, etc. and consult with your supervisor before making your decision.

All JET participants should receive documentation regarding the reappointment procedures from their contracting organisations by mid-October. Please read the documents carefully and consult with your supervisor if you have any questions. More information about reappointment can be found in the GIH (pg. 65-67).
