Regarding the new Coronavirus

It was announced by the Japanese government on May 14 that the state of emergency declaration related to the New Coronavirus will continue to remain in force in Hokkaido, Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, Kanagawa, Osaka, Kyoto, and Hyogo prefectures; however it will be lifted in the remaining 39 prefectures of Japan.

Even after the state of emergency is lifted, it is necessary to maintain vigilance and make thorough efforts in order to prevent a resurgence of infections. The government is continuing to call for avoiding the“Mittsu no mitsu”, or “three Cs”: Confined spaces (with poor ventilation), Crowded places (with many people nearby), and Close contact (with people).

For further information, please refer to the national and local governments’ official websites.

Response to Safety Confirmation during Emergencies

CLAIR provides the Safety Confirmation System (Emergency Call) for use in times of emergency that necessitate direct action, such as an earthquake with seismic intensity of level 5-upper is reported or an emergency warning has been issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency.

In times of emergency, the system will send a message to JET Programme participants by the method of contact they have registered in the system. These messages require a response.

If your registered method of contact is mobile or landline telephone, the telephone guidance will be in Japanese. If you feel you may have trouble responding to such guidance, please change your registered contact method from telephone to e-mail or another written form.

Actual safety confirmation procedures are as follows:

In the case of emergency warnings resulting from, for example, heavy rains or river flooding, registered participants will receive a message from the e-mail address clair@asp2.emc-call.jp with a title like “【Heavy Rain/River Flooding】 Safety Confirmation”. The body of these messages will include a URL that will allow participants to confirm their own safety.

Confirmation groups are divided by prefecture/designated city, so participants may receive safety confirmation requests even when they are not physically near the site of a disaster. In this case, a response is still required from each individual to whom the request is sent.

Multilingual Disaster Preparedness Signage Tool

CLAIR provides an online tool to easily develop signage in multiple languages as part of continued efforts to promote disaster preparedness and internationalisation at the grassroots level. The main purpose of this tool is to allow users to create signage leading to evacuation areas, but it has many other useful templates as well.
