Mental Health Support Resources

With the aim of enhancing mental health support for JET participants, CLAIR offers the JET Programme Mental Health Counselling Assistance Programme. This programme provides a partial subsidy (50%, up to 20,000 yen per year) for counselling costs incurred through consultation with mental health professionals in Japan not covered by health insurance. The coverage period for this year is from Saturday, 1 April, 2017 to Saturday, 31 March, 2018.

CLAIR also offers a free online service to provide JET participants with mental health assistance from professional counsellors using Web Mail and Skype. Please ask your contracting organisation for further information.

Information for Participants Completing their Term on the JET Programme

JET Participants finishing their term of appointment in July/August this year are strongly recommended to start planning for their departure as early as possible. Please refer to the relevant information for departing JET Programme participants found in the 2017 General Information Handbook (Chapter 7: Leaving JET, p.161-173).

In addition, if you require a certificate of employment or letter of recommendation for your future job search, please do not forget to request it from your contracting organisation.

Applications for the 2017 JET Internship Programme

We are now accepting applications for the 2017 JET Internship Programme. Information about the programme has been sent directly to eligible JET participants (2nd-4th year participants) from CLAIR. For more information, please access the following link. The deadline for submitting your application is Friday, 26 May, 2017.

The JET Programme Video Contest 2017

After the tremendous success of last year’s contest, CLAIR is holding the ‘JET Programme Video Contest 2017’ to further showcase the hidden charms of Japan’s local communities as seen through the eyes of current and former JET participants. The application period is Monday, 3 July to Thursday, 30 November, 2017. Please see the link below for further details:

2017-2018 Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Grant

The application period for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) first test date (scheduled for Sunday, 2 July, 2017) ended on Friday, 28 April, 2017. The application period for the second test date (scheduled to be Sunday, 3 December, 2017) will begin in early September, 2017.

Japanese Language Courses (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced)

The 2017-2018 Japanese Language Courses (Beginner/ Intermediate/ Advanced) will start soon. Participants who took part in the 2017 Post-Arrival Orientation (April) and have registered for a course will be able to start on Thursday, 1 June, 2017. If you could not apply before the deadline, are being reappointed for another year, or fall outside any of the categories listed above, please register after checking the course guide and schedule on the JET Programme website.

2017-2018 Grant for TEFL Certification

CLAIR provides a grant to JET participants who wish to improve their English teaching skills by obtaining online certification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. CLAIR has sent the application package to all Host Prefectures/Designated Cities on Thursday, 20 April, 2017. Please ask your contracting organisation supervisor for the application package, or alternatively, you can download it from the JET Programme website. If you are interested in applying for the grant, please thoroughly read the Grant Overview accessible from the link below and apply through your contracting organisation supervisor.

JET Streams (Spring Edition) Now Online

The latest issue of JET Streams, the online newsletter for JET alumni, has been published on the JET Programme website. This edition includes articles about the After JET Conference, JET participants from France, as well as a Canadian Taiko group.
