With the aim of enhancing mental health support for JET participants, CLAIR offers the JET Programme Mental Health Counselling Assistance Programme. This programme provides a partial subsidy (50%, up to 20,000 yen per year) for counselling costs incurred through consultation with mental health professionals in Japan not covered by health insurance. The application form can be submitted through your contracting organisation. Please note that the application form has changed from April.
CLAIR also offers a free online service to provide JET participants with mental health assistance from professional counsellors using Web Mail and Skype. Please ask your contracting organisation for further information.
We have received updated information about pension refunds (lump-sum withdrawal payments). JET participants are now able to apply before they leave Japan. For details, please refer to the information posted on the After JET Guide webpage.
JET Programme Participants finishing their term of appointment in July/August this year are strongly recommended to start planning for their departure as early as possible. Please refer to the relevant information for departing JET Programme participants found in the General Information Handbook (p.161-173) and the After JET Guide webpage.

CLAIR is collecting contact information from JET participants completing their term on the JET Programme via the After JET Contact Information Survey, to assist them in maintaining connections with Japan and the JET Programme. Participants who complete the survey available at the following URL can receive useful information and CLAIR’s alumni mail-magazine. The deadline to reply is Friday, 7 July, 2017, so please register your contact information as soon as possible.
To JET participants who arrived in July/August: It is almost time to extend your Period of Stay, so please double-check the date written on your Residence Card (especially JET participants in their 3rd year who will be reappointed for another term). For information on extending the Period of Stay or changing the Status of Residence, please refer to p.67 of the 2017 edition of the General Information Handbook (GIH) accessible from the link below.
To all participants reappointing for the 2017-2018 JET Year: Information about updating your contact information with CLAIR has been sent to your contracting organisation. Please update your contact information with the online form provided if it has changed.
Reappointing JET participants can sign up for the 2017-2018 Japanese Language Courses from Wednesday, 21 June, 2017. Please read over the course guide before signing up for the course. You can take a placement test on the course’s website to determine your level before signing up.
