With the aim of enhancing mental health support for JET participants, CLAIR offers the JET Programme Mental Health Counselling Assistance Programme. This programme provides a partial subsidy (50%, up to 20,000 yen per year) for counselling costs incurred through consultation with mental health professionals in Japan not covered by health insurance. The coverage period for this year is from Saturday, 1 April, 2017 to Saturday, 31 March, 2018. The application form can be submitted through your contracting organisation. Please note that the application form has changed from April.
CLAIR also offers a free online service to provide JET participants with mental health assistance from professional counsellors using Web Mail and Skype. Please ask your contracting organisation for further information.
JET participants leaving the Programme: you may now apply for lump-sum withdrawal payments as soon as you complete your moving-out procedures at your local government office (you do not need a stamp of final departure from Japan on your passport). For more information see the section on pension refunds on the After JET Guide page.
Note: The Japan Pension Service’s English page, linked from the After JET Guide, does not yet include information about this change. Please refer to the Japanese version.
CLAIR will soon be accepting applications for the Translation & Interpretation Course (English). Applications must be completed through your contracting organisation. The deadline to apply is Friday, 18 August, 2017.
Reappointing JET participants who have registered for a course by Monday, 10 July, 2017 will be able to start on Tuesday, 1 August, 2017. Please remember to plan your study schedule ahead of time. If you were unable to apply before the deadline, or wish to change your course, please register after checking the course guide and schedule on the JET Programme homepage.
JET Programme participants who have been notified that their application has been approved may now sign up for and start taking the TEFL course listed on their application form. Please refer back to the Grant Overview, accessible from the link below, for a timeline of the procedures necessary to receive the grant, commonly asked questions and more. Note: If you sent an application but have not received a notification of the results, please inform your contracting supervisor and have them contact CLAIR.
