Mental Health Support Resources

With the aim of enhancing mental health support for JET participants, CLAIR offers the JET Programme Mental Health Counselling Assistance Programme. This programme provides a partial subsidy (50%, up to 20,000 yen per year) for counselling costs incurred through consultation with mental health professionals in Japan not covered by health insurance. The coverage period for this year is from 1 April, 2018 to 31 March 2019. The application form must be sent to CLAIR by 12 April (Fri) 2019.

CLAIR also offers a free online service to provide JET participants with mental health assistance from professional counsellors using Web Mail and Skype. Please ask your contracting organisation or Host Prefecture/Designated City for further information.

JET Internship Programme 2018

Are you a JET participant entering into your 3rd-5th year with JLPT qualification N2 or higher? Are you interested in working in Japan after the JET Programme? This year CLAIR will once again offer a 5-day internship programme to provide JET participants with the opportunity to gain experience working in a Japanese company. The deadline for application is 24 April (Tue) 2018.

Calling Aspiring Writers: Submission of Articles for JET Programme Voices

CLAIR and The Yomiuri Shimbun have launched a periodical column in The Japan News, a globally-circulated English language newspaper. ‘JET Programme Voices’ is a collection of articles submitted by current and former JET participants which give a worldwide audience insight into unique experiences and achievements of participants during their time on the Programme. Keep an eye out for more information on how to submit your own article and build your portfolio as a writer.

2018-2019 Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Grant

The JLPT N3, N2, and N1 Grant will be offered for the 2018-2019 year. More information regarding the 2018-2019 Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Grant has been uploaded to the JET Programme website. If you plan on taking the JLPT on the first test date this year (1 July), the deadline to apply for the test is 25 April (Wed) 2018.

Japanese Language Courses (Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced)

For those currently enrolled in one of CLAIR’s Japanese language classes, please remember to plan your study schedule ahead of time. If you would like to change your course level, you can do so by accessing the contact information survey site, selecting your desired course, and then clicking the ‘OK’ button at the very bottom of the page. If you register to change your course level by 10 May (Thu), your new course will begin on 1 June (Fri).

Registration of Contact Information for JET Participants

Have you registered or updated your contact information?

All JET participants must access the link below and register their contact information. If you need to modify your information, you can do so via the same website. Please ask your contracting organisation supervisor to obtain your ID and password.

2018-2019 Grant for TEFL/TESOL Certification

CLAIR provides grants to JET participants who wish to improve their English teaching skills by obtaining online certification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). CLAIR has recently sent the application package to all contracting organisations. Please ask your supervisor for the application package, or alternatively you can download it from the JET Programme website. The deadline for submitting your application to CLAIR is 25 May (Fri).

Post-Arrival Checklist for New JET Participants

A useful checklist for newly arrived JET participants can be found on p.81 of the General Information Handbook. Please refer to the checklist for tips about how to become accustomed to your new residence and workplace, including reviewing insurance policies and registering with your embassy.
