Grants for JETs

CLAIR encourages this is by providing two kinds of grants exclusively for JET Programme participants: the TEFL Grant and the JLPT Grant.

CLAIR encourages JET Programme participants to acquire certifications and skills that will be useful in the workplace while on the programme. One way CLAIR encourages this is by providing two kinds of grants exclusively for JET Programme participants: the TEFL Grant and the JLPT Grant.

JLPT Grant

CLAIR currently offers a grant for JET Programme participants who pass N1, N2, or N3 of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.

Aiming to encourage JET Programme participants to improve their Japanese communication abilities, CLAIR offers a grant for those who pass the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).

Application Form

Applications for the first test of 2025 have closed on 17 November 2025.
The JLPT Grant is currently being offered to those who passed the December 2025 JLPT, and meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the documents below. The application deadline for this cycle is March 13th (If a resubmission is required, they must be submitted by March 16th).

※ PDF receipts from the My JLPT online portal have been protected in a way that may prevent them from being uploaded through Adobe Sign. To circumvent this issue, try opening the PDF and creating a new version using the print to PDF option. You should then be able to attach the newly generated PDF to the application form.

TEFL Grant

CLAIR provides partial grants to selected current JET Programme participants who wish to improve their English teaching skills by obtaining online certification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) / Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
