CLAIR encourages JET Programme participants to acquire certifications and skills that will be useful in the workplace while on the programme. One way CLAIR encourages this is by providing two kinds of grants exclusively for JET Programme participants: the TEFL Grant and the JLPT Grant.
JLPT Grant
CLAIR currently offers a grant for JET Programme participants who pass N1, N2, or N3 of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.
Aiming to encourage JET Programme participants to improve their Japanese communication abilities, CLAIR offers a grant for those who pass the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
If you would like to receive this grant, please read over the documents below thoroughly and then send your grant application via the online Application Form.
For up-to-date information about the JLPT test, (dates, times, price etc.) please check the official homepage.

The JLPT Grant is currently being offered to those who passed the December 2025 JLPT, and meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the documents below. The application deadline for this cycle is March 13th (If a resubmission is required, they must be submitted by March 16th).

※ PDF receipts from the My JLPT online portal have been protected in a way that may prevent them from being uploaded through Adobe Sign. To circumvent this issue, try opening the PDF and creating a new version using the print to PDF option. You should then be able to attach the newly generated PDF to the application form.
TEFL Grant
CLAIR provides partial grants to selected current JET Programme participants who wish to improve their English teaching skills by obtaining online certification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) / Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
