The JET Programme Internship seeks to connect Japanese companies looking for global personnel, with JET participants who want the opportunity to advance their post-JET career in Japan.

Internship Overview

Date and TimeLate August (6 days)
※ Including a half-day training session.
How to ApplyPrincipally held in-person.
※Participation online or in-person is allowed for the training session.
※ As a general rule, during the internship you will communicate in Japanese.
Participating CompaniesTBD. Participating companies will be decided by mid-June and sent to applicants who have been shortlisted.

※ We predict that a majority of the participating companies will be located in the Kanto and Kansai regions.

Number of ParticipantsTo be decided in early June.
(For reference) The number of 2025 participants: 43
EligibilityJET participants in their 2nd or higher year, who are contracted until the following year.
Application Guidelines(1)Must be interested in working for a Japanese company post-JET
(2)Must have received approval to join an internship from their Contracting Organisation
(3)Must have at least the JLPT level N2 or equivalent Japanese proficiency and be able to perform work duties in Japanese
(4)Must be able to attend for the entirety of the internship period
(5)Participants should not withdraw from the programme after application
Work Type/Work Regulations/Time Off/Service/Attendance (Maybe add with a ※ as part of the guidelines bit?)Participants must use paid leave to participate in the programme.
Cost・Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for their own transportation and accommodation.
・Insurance Coverage: Covered by the JET Accident Insurance
※ This internship is unpaid. 

※ CLAIR takes no responsibility for any damages incurred in the event of the programme being cancelled as a result of unavoidable (i.e. force majeure) circumstances such as earthquakes, severe weather, transportation issues, government directives or other circumstances out of CLAIR’s control.

Please be aware that only applicants who submit all the required documents will be considered.

Appointment Process

Document Screening

All applicants who meet the participation requirements will undergo a document screening process with results announced later via email.

Interview (Japanese)

Applicants who pass the initial document screening will then undergo an online interview. Interviews will be scheduled after confirming the applicant’s availability upon notification of passing the document screening.

Results Announcement

Results of the interview screening will then be announced to both the applicant and their contracting organisation.

Company Matching Results Announcement

The matching results of successful applicants to host companies will be directly notified to participants.

Meeting with Internship Host Company

Introductory meeting with the company you were matched with prior to starting the internship.

FAQ

I have the Japanese ability to pass the JLPT level N2 test, but I have not taken the test so far.Can I still apply to the internship?

Yes. Although certification of your Japanese ability is not mandatory, participants must have at least the JLPT level N2 or equivalent Japanese proficiency and be able to perform duties in Japanese.

Can we submit preferences for the date/time of our interview?

Yes. Applicants who pass the first round of screening will be consulted regarding their preference for interview times. However, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to meet everyone’s requests, so we ask for your cooperation and understanding.

What kind of companies will participate in the internship?

The companies participating in the 2025 internship will be finalized by June 11th, 2025, at which time theirinformation will be sent to the applicants who pass the first round of screening.

In past years, companies from a wide variety of industries have participated, including information and communication, wholesale and retail, education, and manufacturing.
