Now, I participate in the JET Programme Career Fair each year not only as a former JET, but also as a company representative. The Career Fair is a fantastic opportunity for JETs to explore the wide range of career paths available and to connect with companies that truly value their unique skills and international perspective. I highly encourage any JETs considering a future in Japan to take full advantage of this event!

I joined the JET Program as the first participant from Chile, where I had the chance to connect my country’s culture with Japan’s. When I was getting closer to finishing my last year in JET, I was initially nervous about job hunting in Japan as a native Spanish speaker, as I felt there weren’t that many opportunities. However, through the Career Fair, I was able to find a company that valued my skills and background. Now, I work using both English and Japanese and even get to use Spanish with some of my colleagues. I hope my story gives other non-native English-speaking JETs hope too!

Our university operates in both English and Japanese, with half of our students coming from over 100 countries and regions. To support this diverse environment, we seek staff who not only have strong language skills but also understand multicultural contexts and can work collaboratively across cultures.
Each year, many JET Programme participants visit our booth at the career fair, leading to numerous applications and successful hires. JET alumni bring advanced language proficiency, along with strong communication skills and intercultural awareness developed through hands-on experience in schools and local government. They quickly become valuable members of our team, contributing meaningfully to student life and to the support of our educational and research activities.

From day one at HTM there is an opportunity to work directly with international clients improving their Japanese operations.
Many JETs, with their experience moving to a new country and working as educators or in city halls, have the initiative, creativity, and communication skills needed to rise to these challenges. The eight JETs on our team have quickly become key members leading the designs of our processes and systems, managing our coaching and learning programs, and meeting with potential clients from around the world.
