JET Programme Participating Countries

When the JET Programme was first launched, only four countries took part. Today, that number has grown to 54, and the number of participants has increased significantly—from 848 to 5,933 as of 2025.
The JET Programme is proud to welcome participants from 54 countries for the 2025-2026 year.

Participants by Country

The majority of JET participants are Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) from English speaking countries. There are also many ALTs from non-English speaking countries, and Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) and Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs) from both English speaking and non-English speaking countries

Structure of the JET Programme・Organisations

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme is administered through the collaboration of Japan’s local government authorities, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR).
