Overseas Accidents and JET Programme Accident Insurance

Accidents Occurring outside Japan (Coverage during Temporary Leave Abroad)

The JET Accident Insurance policy provides a supplementary contract for insurance coverage during a JET participant’s temporary leave abroad. If a JET participant becomes ill or injured within a 30 days period* while they are temporarily overseas (away from Japan), benefits will be paid in accordance with the stipulations of the JET Accident Insurance policy. This also applies to temporary leave in countries other than the JET participant’s home country.

When making a claim for benefits, copies of relevant passport pages will be required in order to verify both entry and departure dates of Japan, the JET participant’s home country and/or the third country.

*Note: 30 days are counted from the date following the date of entry into the JET participant’s home country / third country.

*As a rule, insurance coverage will not apply if the JET participant travels overseas for the purpose of receiving treatment abroad for injuries and/or illness that occurred in Japan.
