Outline of the JET Programme Accident Insurance

It covers treatment of illness and injury in Japan for the portion of costs not covered by the National Health Insurance System. Claims can also be made in the event that the JET participant dies or sustains residual disability. For coverage details, please see the JET Accident Insurace Policy Guide.

 

【Policy Outline】

Under this policy, comprehensive insurance coverage for overseas travel accidents is provided for Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme participants by a group of insurance companies headed by SOMPO JAPAN INSURANCE INC. (hereinafter called “SOMPO JAPAN”) in contract with the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR).

 

The contents of the policy are identical for all JET participants and there is no need for enrollment. The insurance premiums are paid entirely by the Contracting Organisation.

 

1. Insurance Type

Overseas Travel Comprehensive Insurance (“JET Programme Accident Insurance”)

 

2. Contracting Party

Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR)

 

3. Insured Parties

All first year and re-contracting JET Programme participants
(Hereinafter called “JET participant”).

 

4. Policy Number

Note: Policy number is determined by date that the participant arrived in Japan and applies to all JET participants who arrived in the applicable month.


April Arrivals (new arrivals and re-contracting JET participants):

July & August Arrivals (new arrivals and re-contracting JET participants):

5. Period of Coverage

Period of coverage begins either two days before the JET participant’s arrival in Japan or the date on which the JET participant leaves the home country* to come to Japan, whichever comes later.

 

Period of coverage ends on the date specified below or when the JET participant returns to the home country*, whichever comes first.

 

New participants who arrived in April:

0:00 a.m. the day after arrival to 12:00 p.m. April 30th of the following year

 

New participants who arrived July, August 2007:

0:00 a.m. the day after arrival to 12:00 p.m. August 31st of the following year

 

Re-contracting participants who arrived in April:

0:00 a.m. May 1st to 12:00 p.m. April 30th of the following year

 

Re-contracting participants who arrived in July/August:

0:00 a.m. September 1st to 12:00 p.m. August 31st of the following year

 

The period of coverage for participants who do not complete their contract with their Contracting Organisation will differ from the dates above. The period of coverage will continue until the day before the corresponding date of the following month or when the JET participant returns to their home country* whichever comes earlier.

(For example, if the JET Programme contract is terminated on October 15th, the period of coverage under this policy will continue until November 14th, or until the participant returns home*, whichever comes earlier.)

 

Note: “Home country” refers to the country from which one departed to join the JET Programme or any other country in which the JET participant has a place of residence.

 

6. Insurance Enrollment

All JET participants are automatically enrolled in the JET Accident Insurance Policy. (Each JET participant must, however, submit the Declaration of Beneficiary Form.)
