I am afraid that I cannot submit my montly test by the deadline because of illness or other urgent matters. Can you extend the deadline?

Because many people are taking these courses, we cannot extend the deadline for any reason whatsoever.
We will therefore mark you down as having not met the deadline. However, if you submit all six monthly tests by the submission deadline for Book 6, and score 70 percent or higher on all six tests, you will still receive a Certificate of Completion.

I am planning to be overseas for a long time. If the postmark dates on my answer sheet submission envelopes are the same date as the deadline, will my monthly tests be considered on time?

Your answer sheet must be sent to us by the submission deadline, regardless of the date on the overseas postmarks. If your answer sheet is received by us after the deadline, your grade will be treated as "Late". If two or more of your answer sheets are received after the submission deadline for Book 6, we will not be able to issue you with a Certificate of Completion.

Can you post course materials to overseas addresses?

No, we cannot. We can only post course materials to Japanese addresses. Also, if you are no longer a JET participant because you are quitting your job, your contract is expiring (for those who came to Japan in April), or you wil not be continuing on with JET for any other reason, please note that you cannot continue to study this course. Contact the Help Line immediately if you know that you will not be continuing as a JET participant.

I have not submitted my answer sheet for this month's test. Can I continue to take this course?

Yes, you can. However depending on the dates you submit your other monthly tests and the scores you receive for them, you may not be issued with a Certificate of Completion.

The piece of paper on which your mailing address was printed is the answer sheet. Arrival of the course materials means that the answer sheet was also included in the envelope, so please look again for the answer sheet.

(1) Check whether a staff member at your place of employment received the course materials.
(2) Ask your Japanese supervisor to check if a staff member in the mailroom or General Affairs Department received the course materials.

I am taking the Advanced Course and I have not received the postcard with my monthly test results for Books 3, 4 and 5. When will I receive them?

We do not send postcards for Books 3 to 5 for the Advanced Course. Instead, we send you the corrected answer sheets.

Where can I get an application form to apply for this course?
|

New JETs should have received a Course Guide Book for the Japanese Language Course at Tokyo Orientation. Recontracting JETs were sent the Course Guide Book in June. The application form is on the last page of the Course Guide Book. Please cut it out and hand the completed form to your supervisor by the deadline printed on the front cover.

Who do I submit my application form to?

The application form should be submitted to your direct supervisor. He/She will then send the application on to the Host Prefecture/Designated City. They will then forward it on to CLAIR. Applications sent directly to CLAIR by JET participants will not be accepted. Applications that arrive after the deadline will not be accepted.@

Is it necessary to have my supervisorfs signature and stamp (inkan) on the application form?

Yes, you need to have your supervisor sign and stamp the application form so that he/she is aware of this Japanese Language Course and your participation on it.

I do not know how to fill in the mark sheet.
|

The mark sheet is used to select the answer that you think is correct from the choices offered. Use a pencil to completely blacken the corresponding box that you feel is correct. Computers read the blackened boxes and score the test accordingly. If you do not know how to blacken the boxes on the mark sheet, consult your supervisor or refer to the Study Guide which was sent with your course materials.

How is the average score calculated?

The average score is the value obtained by dividing the sum of all participants' scores by the number of course participants. Please study hard so that you can get the average score or better.

Where is the monthly test submission deadline printed?

Each monthly test submission deadline is printed on the insert enclosed with the course materials and it is also printed in the Study Guide.

When will I get the monthly test results?
|
 |
You will get the monthly tests results sent to you about one and a half months after you submit the monthly test.

We cannot check whether your answer sheet arrived here until we have graded all of the answer sheets we received. Therefore, if you did not submit your answer sheet, we will not be able to check whether it was received until approximately one month after the deadline.
